Metric - Help, I’m Alive.
Official video via Stereogum. I’ll be honest, I love the song but this video has left me a little confused. One word pretty much sums up my feelings: clusterfuck.
I’m not necessarily a fan of completely literal videos, and the cutesy, sentimental hearts that littered the entire clip felt like they belong in a Stars video, not a Metric one. Nonetheless, one thing can be ascertained: Emily Haines can rock any dress.
My first reaction to this was, “What?! This can’t be the new Metric video.” I even headed over to Sterogum to make sure it was really, truly the official video. It took me a while to get past the confusion. However, after I got used to it, the video was pretty good. The retro/vintage/whatever feel was definitely interesting. To be honest, I didn’t notice the dresses Haines was wearing. I was distracted by the old chemistry textbook diagrams and outdated graphics.
